been a long time coming

Well, since my last post a lot of things have happened in the life of Rave0021. Nothing I really can talk about here. Actually I could being as no one I know reads this, hell I don't ever check it. Well, off to sleep as I need it for the upcoming water, that is life. I say "water" because it is fluid, the only thing that is static is change, thus the fluid of life.

FOr those that didn't know, I graduated from college. and in celebration of that I am doing a small thing. Ok, the small thing I would like to do is a get together of everyone I know. Contradictory, I know because I know a lot of people. Here's the shtick though. It is a BYOF. I want a bonfire. but us Rave's do bonfires differently. So Bring Your Own Flammables. We will ltry for a late afternoon thingy. Please come and don't feel like you need to bring a present, just your self and something to burn!

As we all know this is the time for the Holidays and for a very special once a year event. The Celebration of the Rave0021 birthday. This year's event will be held on Friday the 16th around 730pm. Those who wish to meet prior to then for carpooling or pre-dinner fun, we will be meet at the "BOX." For dinner we are going to try the world-class buffet at the wonderful Mystic Lake Casino, near Shakopee, MN. After dinner festivities will be held at the residence of Mr. Brawly, Mr. Ferret and Mr. Kinsy, also known as the "BOX" for those that due not know. You are all welcome to come and enjoy in any or all aspects of the night. Also please feel free to bring people whom you think will also enjoy a spendid evening out on the town and with friends. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, directions, etc.

Saving Face

I just saw this movie, Saving Face. It is a romantic-comedy of a Chinese-American mother and daughter. The mother is a 48 single mom who has become pregnant again and the daughter a lesbian. It deals with the Chinese culture's views on each of these subjects. Brilliant movie.

Saving Face starts like you might expect a Chinese-American lesbian romantic comedy to start: Young surgeon Wilhelmina (Michelle Krusiec, in her first starring role) has kept her sexual orientation secret from the conservative Chinese community of Flushing, NY--but when her mother (Joan Chen, The Last Emperor) becomes pregnant and is kicked out by her own parents, Wil suddenly has to juggle her mother's secrets with her own...which include her sparky new romance with Vivian (Lynn Chen), a ballet dancer and the daughter of Wil's boss. This bundle of intrigue and lust could motivate a wacky farce, but writer/director Alice Wu takes things a step further, delving into the characters' psyches and the complex social rules of their world while still crafting a strong plot and plenty of sly humor. Wu captures excellent performances from her entire cast, particularly Joan Chen, who gives perhaps her most multifaceted performance. A rich, rewarding, and delightful movie.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The record industry may next aim its legal guns at satellite radio over a dispute involving new portable players that let listeners record and store songs, an analyst and industry sources said Wednesday.

The record industry, led by major labels such as Vivendi Universal (Research), Warner Music Group Corp. (Research), EMI Group Plc and Sony BMG, believe the recording capability is a clear copyright violation and could take revenue away from paid download music services.

Illegal song trading has been blamed by the record industry for declines in sales, and labels have become increasingly aggressive in their legal battles to defend their product. Now that focus includes portable players.

"There are genuine issues here, but it is our continuing hope that we can resolve this on a business to business basis," said an RIAA spokesman.

Two music industry sources said that the two sides were in talks to resolve the issue and could go to court over the matter.

JP Morgan analyst Barton Crockett suggested in a report that there might be more conflict in store.

"Based on recent talks with execs at record labels and the Recording Industry Association of America, we see potential spats ahead. RIAA may file a lawsuit this fall to stop a new feature for upcoming wearable satellite radios," he wrote.

No. 1 satellite provider XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. (Research) said it was also hopeful the issues would be resolved.

"The music industry is an important partner, and we continue to listen to their concerns in hopes of finding a resolution that benefits everyone, especially consumers," said Nathaniel Brown, a spokesman for XM.

Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. (Research) declined comment.

In August Sirius said it would introduce a small portable device, dubbed the S50, for its subscription radio service that can store 50 hours of music, news and programs from Sirius channels, in a move to narrow the gap with XM Satellite, which has had a portable device on the market since last fall.

Beginning in the fourth quarter, XM will also begin to offer MP3-enabled portable satellite radios developed by Korea's Samsung Electronics Co Ltd.

Even if the conflict winds up in court, Crockett said in his report he did not believe such a suit would succeed because fair use laws allow users to record songs for their own use.

He said it could would pose a "headline risk" for satellite radio and prompt a lobbying push by the recording industry as the two industries wrangle over a new music rights contract.

Crockett said the RIAA may seek $1 billion plus in music rights fees for a new contract covering 2007 to 2012 to replace the current $80 million pact that expires in 2006.

But the record industry expects these contract talks will wind up in arbitration, one source said.

In the meantime, XM has announced a partnership with paid service Napster Inc. (Research) that lets portable-device listeners mark songs they hear on the satellite service to purchase from Napster.

Jackson & Walsh to Exec. Produce Halo

Universal Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox announced today that triple-Academy Award® winners Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh will serve as the executive producers of Halo, the upcoming feature film based on Microsoft's phenomenally popular video game from Bungie Studios. Jackson and Walsh will provide creative counsel on all aspects of the film via their WingNut Films banner, and Jackson's award-winning companies Weta Digital Ltd. and Weta Workshop Ltd. will provide creatures, miniatures and visual effects for the production. The Halo agreement marks the first time that Jackson and Walsh have performed these services on a major studio film that Jackson is not directing.

Mary Parent and Scott Stuber will produce Halo with Peter Schlessel. After Fox, led by President Hutch Parker, and Universal, led by Production President Donna Langley, acquired the feature film rights to Halo, the studios worked in conjunction with Schlessel in reaching out to a number of producers who auditioned for Microsoft/Bungie. The film is currently targeted for a Summer 2007 worldwide release. Universal will handle domestic distribution of the film, and Fox will handle the international release.

This unique alliance among Fox, Universal, Microsoft, and Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh promises a step forward in motion picture production. Halo will benefit from the experience and resources of the film studios, from Bungie Studios' groundbreaking vision, and from Jackson and Walsh's creative sensibilities and expertise in both traditional filmmaking and the world of emerging digital technologies.

Halo will be shot in its entirety in Wellington, New Zealand and will make use of the full range of Jackson's state-of-the-art production and post- production facilities, including Weta Digital Ltd., Weta Workshop Ltd., Stone Street Studios and Park Road Post.

But U2 rocked. Possibly the greatest concert I ever saw. If ever given a chance to see them, go. Do not hesitate, just go.

So I have been watching Battlestar Galactica the TV show every now and then. It is quality. My brother had the miniseries that started the show, which I just finished watching. There is a lot of things I can say about the show, but the only thing I'll say here is if you like Sci-Fi, you will love this show. It is like ER, West Wing, Star Wars, and Babylon 5 all wrapped into a juicy package. Do yourself a favor and watch it.

Lucas gets smart..well sort of.

Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith hits DVD on November 1 and the New York Post talked to George Lucas about what kind of deleted scenes we can expect.

"Most are Senatorial in nature," Lucas said, "Some are about the conspiracy, in terms of starting the Rebel Alliance. But mostly there's lots of beautiful costumes!"

He also talked a bit more about the "Star Wars" TV show, which is in the works along with a new animated "Clone Wars" series.

"There will be a live-action show, but I don't know if it'll be in 2006," he says. "I haven't even started writing the script. It's all minor, minor characters. It's not the Skywalker story at all - that's going on in another part of the galaxy."

So hopefully this isn't earth shattering news but we now have found out what happens to Wookies when they get wet, they make more of them. Apparently it also takes nine months for this new Wookie to appear. Who knew that all it took was some water and then blammo, a new one. Let us all pray that the third rule also doesn't apply, and that we can feed it after midnight. Congrats to all those sperm donors and the recipents of said sperm.

James Doohan, 'Star Trek's' Scotty, dead

James Doohan, the burly chief engineer of the Starship Enterprise in the original "Star Trek" TV series and motion pictures who responded to the apocryphal command "Beam me up, Scotty," died early Wednesday. He was 85.

Doohan died at 5:30 a.m. (1330 GMT) at his Redmond, Washington, home with his wife of 28 years, Wende, at his side, Los Angeles agent and longtime friend Steve Stevens said. The cause of death was pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease, he said.

The Canadian-born Doohan fought in World War II and was wounded during the D-Day invasion, according to the StarTrek.com Web site. He was enjoying a busy career as a character actor when he auditioned for a role as an engineer in a new space adventure on NBC in 1966. A master of dialects from his early years in radio, he tried seven different accents.

"The producers asked me which one I preferred," Doohan recalled 30 years later. "I believed the Scot voice was the most commanding. So I told them, 'If this character is going to be an engineer, you'd better make him a Scotsman.' "

The series, which starred William Shatner as Capt. James T. Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as the enigmatic Mr. Spock, attracted an enthusiastic following of science fiction fans, especially among teenagers and children, but not enough ratings power. NBC canceled it after three seasons.

When the series ended in 1969, Doohan found himself typecast as Montgomery Scott, the canny engineer with a burr in his voice. In 1973, he complained to his dentist, who advised him: "Jimmy, you're going to be Scotty long after you're dead. If I were you, I'd go with the flow."

"I took his advice," said Doohan, "and since then everything's been just lovely."

"Star Trek" continued in syndication both in the United States and abroad, and its following grew larger and more dedicated. In his later years, Doohan attended 40 "Trekkie" gatherings around the country and lectured at colleges.

The huge success of George Lucas' "Star Wars" in 1977 prompted Paramount Pictures, which had produced "Star Trek" for television, to plan a movie based on the series. The studio brought back the TV cast and hired director Robert Wise. "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" was successful enough to spawn five sequels with the cast of the original TV show; other films, featuring cast members of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," have followed.

The powerfully built Doohan spoke frankly in 1998 about his employer and his TV commander.

"I started out in the series at basic minimum -- plus 10 percent for my agent. That was added a little bit in the second year. When we finally got to our third year, Paramount told us we'd get second-year pay! That's how much they loved us."

He accused Shatner of hogging the camera, adding: "I like Captain Kirk, but I sure don't like Bill. He's so insecure that all he can think about is himself."

James Montgomery Doohan was born March 3, 1920, in Vancouver, British Columbia, youngest of four children of William Doohan, a pharmacist, veterinarian and dentist, and his wife Sarah. As he wrote in his autobiography, "Beam Me Up, Scotty," his father was a drunk who made life miserable for his wife and children.

At 19, James escaped the turmoil at home by joining the Canadian army, becoming a lieutenant in artillery. He was among the Canadian forces that landed on Juno Beach on D-Day. "The sea was rough," he recalled. "We were more afraid of drowning than the Germans."

The Canadians crossed a minefield laid for tanks; the soldiers weren't heavy enough to detonate the bombs. At 11:30 that night, he was machine-gunned, taking six hits: one that took off his middle right finger (he managed to hide the missing finger on screen), four in his leg and one in the chest. The chest bullet was stopped by his silver cigarette case.

After the war Doohan on a whim enrolled in a drama class in Toronto. He showed promise and won a two-year scholarship to New York's famed Neighborhood Playhouse, where fellow students included Leslie Nielsen, Tony Randall and Richard Boone.

His commanding presence and booming voice brought him work as a character actor in films and television, both in Canada and the United States.

Oddly, his only other TV series besides "Star Trek" was another space adventure, "Space Command," in 1953.

Doohan's first marriage to Judy Doohan produced four children. He had two children by his second marriage to Anita Yagel. Both marriages ended in divorce. In 1974 he married Wende Braunberger, and their children were Eric, Thomas and Sarah, who was born in 2000, when Doohan was 80.

In a 1998 interview, Doohan was asked if he ever got tired of hearing the line "Beam me up, Scotty" -- a line that, reportedly, was never actually spoken on the TV show.

"I'm not tired of it at all," he replied. "Good gracious, it's been said to me for just about 31 years. It's been said to me at 70 miles an hour across four lanes on the freeway. I hear it from just about everybody. It's been fun."

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that local governments may seize people's homes and businesses -- even against their will -- for private economic development.

It was a decision fraught with huge implications for a country with many areas, particularly the rapidly growing urban and suburban areas, facing countervailing pressures of development and property ownership rights.

The 5-4 ruling represented a defeat for some Connecticut residents whose homes are slated for destruction to make room for an office complex. They argued that cities have no right to take their land except for projects with a clear public use, such as roads or schools, or to revitalize blighted areas.

As a result, cities have wide power to bulldoze residences for projects such as shopping malls and hotel complexes to generate tax revenue.

Local officials, not federal judges, know best in deciding whether a development project will benefit the community, justices said.

"The city has carefully formulated an economic development that it believes will provide appreciable benefits to the community, including -- but by no means limited to -- new jobs and increased tax revenue," Justice John Paul Stevens wrote for the majority.

He was joined by Justice Anthony Kennedy, David H. Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen G. Breyer.

At issue was the scope of the Fifth Amendment, which allows governments to take private property through eminent domain if the land is for "public use."

Susette Kelo and several other homeowners in a working-class neighborhood in New London, Connecticut, filed suit after city officials announced plans to raze their homes for a riverfront hotel, health club and offices.

New London officials countered that the private development plans served a public purpose of boosting economic growth that outweighed the homeowners' property rights, even if the area wasn't blighted.

Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who has been a key swing vote on many cases before the court, issued a stinging dissent. She argued that cities should not have unlimited authority to uproot families, even if they are provided compensation, simply to accommodate wealthy developers.

The lower courts had been divided on the issue, with many allowing a taking only if it eliminates blight.

"Any property may now be taken for the benefit of another private party, but the fallout from this decision will not be random," O'Connor wrote. "The beneficiaries are likely to be those citizens with disproportionate influence and power in the political process, including large corporations and development firms."

She was joined in her opinion by Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, as well as Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas.

Kentucky Death Trip

Well we just got back from our Kentucky weekend trip. We left friday at 5pm and to go KY at 7am. As the drive went on and on and on, I kept getting weird things trapped in my head. Lashes half way there starting talking about his Xbox remote??? I got the Oscar Myer weiner song stuck in my head. But instead of weiner, it was a Vagina.

My vagina has a first name.

My vagina has a second name,
Its M, Y, E, R.

It was way too tired.

I just liked my stupid vagina song so I thought I post about it.
